Ones with the guns run things

July 5th news from Foreign Policy publication website:

"The U.S. military retreated from Afghanistan two years ago, leaving behind (7 billion dollars in equipment and) weapons that are now turning up in far-flung trouble spots where terrorists are fighting and killing America’s allies. Business, like terrorism, is thriving. It’s a new arms race—and it’s threatening global security."

Isaiah 47: [10] For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

[11] Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
[12] Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

"You know what an enchantment is. You have these code words to try to release power. You have the chants and all that stuff people do. They're going to use these sorceries and stuff, casting spells to try to gain an upper hand.

[13] Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

"They have the word of prophecy and are going to tell the future and they're going to use what look like signs and wonders and so forth to do these things and it's going to deceive the nations.

"And that system in Revelation 17 (MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH) has all these children that go out. That's what's behind the militaristic world-dominion philosophy of going out and trying to subdue the world with militaristic power.

"The power of the government is in its military. That's always the way it is. The people who have the guns, they rule.

"Back in the '90s when we went to Bulgaria, the communists had only been two years fallen. Bulgaria was really in a shambles after the Berlin Wall fell and the Communist Party had been removed.

"Brother Nick Terziski had escaped in the late '60s and we actually went back into the prison where he was kept in a maximum-security prison right in downtown Sofia.

"We were allowed to go into that prison and, for the first time in 47 years, the gospel was openly preached inside there. At one point, Brother Nick was looking out the window at the same cell block where he'd been put for two years and he said, 'Right over there is where they kept me.' It was really kind of spooky for him.

"We went into this room, maybe 10 feet by 15 feet, where they said, 'You have to wait here,' and we're sitting looking at the freshly painted walls and got to noticing, 'Those look like bullet holes in the wall.' You could see where the shackles were. This was a tough place.

"We were in Nick's hometown. a little village of 700 people out in the country, and his cousin's wife had been what we would call the mayor of the city. I was talking to her about how she was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party but believed in God.

"I asked her, 'How could you be a communist and not be an atheist?' She said, 'Look, they had the guns. They were in control. We didn't have any choice about whether we were this way or that way because they ran things.'

"That's a fact. If you've got the gun, you run things. The power of the state is the military."
