God's literary devices in Revelation

"In the Book of Revelation is scene-switching. In addition to a beginning and an end, the reader sees a heavenly perspective and an earthly perspective.

"There will be something going on on the earth in Revelation but then God is going to say, 'But this is what's happening in the heaven.' There will be God's perspective of what's happening on the earth. It seems a little chaotic but isn't the 70th Week chaotic?" says Alex Kurz.

"Something else we see is what we'll call a repeating narrative. Revelation provides the scope of an event. For example, Revelation 7:14: [14] And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

"We're reading the general scope of the end of the great tribulation and we're reading about what's going to happen in the new heaven and new earth. But then when we get to chapter 8:1: [1] And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

"In Revelation 7 we have some information about the end of the trib and the new heaven and earth, but in chapters 8-10, especially the opening verses of 10, there are some details concentrating on the great tribulation.

"Chapter 8 takes the reader back and provides some details, some narrative especially about the great tribulation.

Revelation 12: [7] And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

[8] And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
[9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Verse 14: [14] And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

"In chapter 12 is another view of the three and a half years and three and a half years. As we progress through Revelation it's going to bring us back and provide detail, and as we progress a little more it's going to go back and provide more detail. There's a repeating narrative. Some people call it flashbacks but I don't think that really conveys the idea.

" 'John, we're going to take you back and now you're going to provide a little more detail. You're going to provide detail as far as what God's doing up in heaven and you're going to have a little more detail about what's happening on the planet.'

Chapter 13: [5] And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

[6] And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
[7] And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
[8] And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

"Here we go again. We're getting info about what's happening in the great tribulation, what's happening in heaven and then, when the devil gets to earth, what's happening on the earth in the empowerment.

"You see how we're going back, going back, going back?"
