The whole shooting match:

Talking about standing against the “wiles of the devil,” Paul warns in Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

This is a reference to the governing control of these gods over the nations of the world. Every Gentile nation was once placed under the authority of specific gods.

Deuteronomy 32 says, “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.
[8] When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.
[9] For the LORD's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

“Notice there’s a time Israel knows about when God divided to the nations their inheritance,” explains Pastor Richard Jordan. “In the Bible, an inheritance has to do with land and a place to dwell. He separated the sons of Adam from one another. When did this happen? At the Tower of Babel.

“They were engaged in universal global idolatry that was going to take spiritual wickedness and permeate the whole planet with it. This is where Romans 1, historically, fits in.

"Romans 1:21 says, [21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

"Do you remember in Genesis 6 what God said about the Flood? [5] And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

“Their thoughts had been so corrupted. The angelic host came down and corrupted mankind and that angelic invasion led men away into worshipping them.

"You see, idolatry in the Bible didn’t begin until Genesis 10. The gods had come down and men got the idea of making idols to memorialize their visit, representing, ‘They were here!’ You know how you take mementos, pictures when you go somewhere? Nowadays, you take selfies.

"The Lie program is associated with rejecting God. They turned from the real thing to the false thing. Wherefore ‘God gave them up.’ As Romans 1:28 says, [28] And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

“What happened at the Tower of Babel is man didn’t like to retain God in his knowledge so God said, ‘Okay, I’ll give you up. I’ll let you have your way. You don’t want me, you want a lie--I’ll let you have a lie. I’ll let all these fallen gods—you like them better, they can be your god.’

“This is why in Genesis 10 you have these 72 nations that come out of Noah’s boys. In Acts 17, Paul says God divided those nations and set bounds between them. Borders, language, culture. When you gather together among people who can speak your language in a geographic location, you develop a culture. Geography produces cultures.

“God gave them a piece of ground and then He separated them out in it, but He kept one piece of ground for Himself. It says the ‘LORD's portion is his people.’

“In Genesis 11, Israel didn’t exist yet. By about Deuteronomy it did. But what did God do after the Tower of Babel? He gave up all those Gentile nations and said, ‘I’m going to call me out one guy, Abraham, and I’m going to make him a great nation. He’s going to be my nation. I’m going to give Him this little piece of real estate and that’s my portion, my guy, and I’m going to show all these nations what it is to have me as their god.’

“He's saying, ‘Okay, they don’t want me so I’ll create my own nation and I’ll show them what it would have been if they had me. And through Abraham I’m going to reclaim all that other stuff.’

“When God gave up the nations, He gave them over to the fallen gods they wanted to worship; the ones Satan had tempted Eve to look at. The ones who came down in Genesis 6 and corrupted their thinking. Their progeny went among them as ‘men of renown.’

"In Deuteronomy 4:19, God’s talking to Israel, saying, ‘[19] And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

“The angelic host is often called the host of heaven. He’s telling Israel don’t go out and worship and serve that host of heaven ‘which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations.’

“God didn’t give those fallen gods out there to Israel, but He did give them to specific peoples. When He divided up man, He said, ‘Okay, Carl, this god’s yours and Laura, this other god’s yours and Tom, this god’s yours.’ He went right around the nations and assigned each one of them to those gods and those gods to those specific nations.

“God warned Israel and then in Deuteronomy 29 it says, [16] (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
[17] And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
[18] Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

“They literally went out and stole somebody else’s gods! They had the God of gods but went out and took gods God didn’t give them. That corruption, that dividing and assigning of the nations to these fallen gods, that’s the spiritual wickedness; the rulers of the darkness of this world.

“You need to understand that the Gentile nations you work with out there today in the dispensation of grace have a tremendous spiritual problem. II Corinthians 4:3 says, [3] But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
[4] In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The gods have a person they’ve elected to be their God and he’s not Jehovah God; he’s the guy we call Satan, the Adversary. He’s the ruler, the prince of this world. He has the political and the religious/spiritual control because he’s the one who led the rebellion against Jehovah.”
