“Moses
literally saw the Lord Jesus Christ; the Jehovah that appeared to him was
Jehovah God the Son.
“In the Old
Testament there are two different Jehovahs. One is a visible Jehovah you can
see, talk to and have a meal with. The other one is an invisible one you don’t
see.
“The invisible
one is in heaven and the one on earth is in visible form and literally that’s
the Old Testament Jewish idea of the godhead.
“In fact, rabbinical
Judaism, until the 2nd Century of the Christian era, talked about
the two powers in heaven. There was God the Father, the invisible Jehovah, and
then there was the one who made Himself visible.
Genesis 19:24:
[24] Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon
Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
“There are
two Jehovahs in that verse. One on the earth that rains it down and the other
in heaven who’s sending it down.
Genesis 18:22: [22] And the men turned their faces from thence, and
went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
Verse 1: [1] And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of
Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
"Here’s a visible
embodiment, a presence. Jehovah shows up and Abraham sees him.
"These three
men, two of them turn out to be angels and one of them turns out to be Jehovah.
They all look like men. They are in a bodily manifestation.
Verse 8: [8] And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
"You have a
physical embodied presence of Jehovah. He talks and Abraham hears Him. He sees
them and they eat together.
Verses 21 and
23: [21] I will go down now, and see whether they have
done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not,
I will know.
[23] And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also
destroy the righteous with the wicked?
“When God
says, ‘I’ll go,’ He goes by an agent; He sends representatives who go in His
stead and carry out various functions for Him.
“Now, you
hear all kind of weird commentaries. Commentaries, for example, say the seven
spirits in Revelation are the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not seven
spirits. It’s not Isaiah 11, as they tell you: [2] And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the
spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
“The Holy Spirit
is not one spirit with seven characteristics.
Those are seven watches who go out into the earth. Those are the agents
we studied in Zechariah 1.
“As
II Chronicles 16 says, ‘For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the
whole earth.’
“In Genesis
18, Abraham knows the Jehovah he’s talking to is the one who’s going to destroy
them. The one standing there in front of Abraham in Genesis 19:24 is the one
raining brimstone down, but He’s raining it from the Jehovah who’s in heaven.
God the Father is up there in the spirit realm.
Amos 4:11: [11] I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew
Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet
have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“The way He says
that is like, ‘God did that, and I’ve overthrown you.’ Obviously there’s two
characters involved in the verse. Both are God, both are Jehovah.
“When those
three guys showed up in Genesis 18, Abraham knew exactly who Jehovah was
because he’s already had repeated encounters with Him.
Genesis 12:1:
[1] Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out
of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land
that I will shew thee:
“Previous to
this occasion being recorded here, God had already appeared to Abraham.
Acts 7: [2] And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers,
hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in
Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
[3] And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country,
and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
"So by the time Abraham got to where he is in Genesis 12, the God of glory had appeared unto Abraham, which means He became visible.”
